Samsung I7500 is a first mobile phone by LG that runs Android operating system. The device is equipped with a 5 MP autofocus camera with flash, supports GPS, WLAN, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0, HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps, and microSD memory cards up to 32 GB. The operating system developed by Google implies the opportunity to use such services as Google Search, Google Maps ™ and Google Mail. The new mobile phone has a 3.2-inch capacitive AMOLED touchscreen and a 3.5 mm jack. There are 8 gigabytes of onboard memory and the capacity of the battery is 1500 mAh.

It left behind BlackBerry 8100 (Pearl) and has 45% of traffic. Not long ago HTC Dream (G1) was the number 13 mobile device in the US with 1.7% and now is the number one handset on the T-Mobile network.   Not a single word about price and availability so far. All we know is that it is a blue touchscreen (320x240) music slider with the MP3 player and support of Bluetooth v2.0 and USB v2.0. Samsung M2510 also has a camera but it’s not the one worth appraising with its 0.3 MP and 640×480 px maximum photo size. Nevertheless, it could be useful from time to time.   

  Samsung is expected to make good progress in manufacturing and distribution of mobile devices running Android operating system that will result in HTC risking to lose its Android market segment. The manufacturers will start competing around Q3 2009. The first Android smartphone by Samsung will resemble HTC Magic in terms of design, specifications, and 3.5G chipset from Qualcomm. The information leaked from Samsung and should be treated as unofficial. However, the same sources said that HTC feels very confident in Android smartphone market segment.  

  First of all, we’d like to point out that the manufacturer haven’t announced the retail price for the new devices but mentioned their market segment and shipping date: S5230 will be available in France in April and then in other European countries; S5600 will hit the European market a bit later, in May. Samsung S5600 is a relatively small and stylish mobile phone with minimalist yet attractive design. The TouchWiz user interface is worth being mentioned together with the Gesture Lock function that allows unlocking the phone and going to menus by drawing an English letter on the display with your finger. The menu-letter link is user-defined. Samsung S5600 has a 3-megapixel camera with Smile the Shot function, supports H.263, MPEG4, WMV file formats, and microSD memory cards up to 8 GB. The Samsung S5600 mobile phone has 80 MB of onboard memory. Samsung S5230 is a bit smaller than S5600 and has a larger display. This model also has the TouchWiz user interface, Gesture Lock, and a 3-megapixel camera but no 3G support if compared to S5600.   The GSMA reported that Mobile World Congress was attended by more than 47,000 visitors from 189 countries with executives from the largest mobile operators, software companies and equipment providers as well as government delegations. Attendees holding C-level positions constituted 50% of visitors and there were more than 2,800 CEOs at the conference. Leaders from companies including AT&T, China Mobile, China Unicom, Ericsson, Microsoft Corp., MySpace, Nokia, Telefonica, Telenor, Verizon Communications and Vodafone gathered to outline the plan to cope with the global economic slowdown and lessen its impact on mobile industry. The Congress featured 1,300 exhibiting companies on more than 57,000 square metres of space, 11% larger than in the previous year. Announcements made at Mobile World Congress were reported by nearly 2,400 international, Web, and broadcast media. Prospects and strategic issues facing the mobile industry will be explored at the Mobile Asia Congress that will be held in Hong Kong in autumn 2009.  

  Seventeen top mobile operators and manufacturers announced that they have decided to team up and create a universal charger for new mobile phones. The project is initiated by the GSMA. The universal charger compatible with all mobile phones will eliminate the manufacturers of making duplicate chargers (all of them have 51,000 tonnes in weight) that can be purchased separately in case the original charger is broken. Environment will only benefit by the reduced production of chargers. Moreover, mobile phone users will find the universal charger very convenient – they won’t have to spend a lot of time looking for a charger compatible with their mobile phones. The universal charging solution (UCS) is scheduled to be included in the package of most mobile phones by the 1st January 2012. A universal charger will be based on the Micro-USB interface.   The Blue Earth cell phone will be presented at Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona. Blue Earth is a world’s first full touchscreen mobile phone with the solar battery built in the backside. The phone has already contributed to environmental protection as it is made from recycled plastic extracted from water bottles and the process of extraction is not too harmful to the nature. Owners of Blue Earth will like the ‘eco walk' function that turns on the in-built pedometer and counts your steps, calculating the amount of CO2 emissions that has not got into the atmosphere because you are walking and not driving. You will see saved trees on the display – this is your contribution to the nature. The packaging for the phone is also made from recycled paper.   At first sight there is nothing special in the Samsung B2100 mobile phone. Well, you just don’t know what to pay attention to. The B2100 phone has a shock-proof casing and withstands sand, dust, and water. The manufacturer claims that the mobile phone can be run over by a car and there will be no consequences after it.   Today Samsung reported that this phone will be shipping in Q2 2009 and not in spring. Moreover, the new Android smartphone will not be announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. At present the company is in negotiations with mobile network operators about taking the new Android phone.

Tachfon offers users a simple and convenient interface, supports widgets for social services functions for sending instant messages.   Skype launches a lite version of Skype™ client that can be downloaded to Android-powered and Java-enabled cell phones. The lite version of Skype is now available for the T-Mobile G1™ and is expected to work on other future Android-powered devices.
