LG GM200 is very simple in terms of design but it is quite a nice phone for lovers of music. GM200 has a built-in radio antenna, 2-megapixel camera with CMOS sensor, stereo speakers, supports RDS, and packs Dolby Mobile technology. LG GM200 features 30 MB of onboard memory, a slot for a microSD card, and a background noise sensor that adjusts the volume when it is necessary.  

  LG is going to increase investment in R&D by 25%, most of which will be allocated to OLED displays and solar batteries development. The company told ChannelNews that they would invest more than 3 billion US dollars in R&D during 18 months and that Apple paid them more than $500 mln to develop new monitors and displays. LG expects new OLED displays to be “fingerprint unfriendly” due to a special layer.  

  Samsung is expected to make good progress in manufacturing and distribution of mobile devices running Android operating system that will result in HTC risking to lose its Android market segment. The manufacturers will start competing around Q3 2009. The first Android smartphone by Samsung will resemble HTC Magic in terms of design, specifications, and 3.5G chipset from Qualcomm. The information leaked from Samsung and should be treated as unofficial. However, the same sources said that HTC feels very confident in Android smartphone market segment.

  The LG KM900 Arena mobile phone unveiled at MWC last month in Barcelona, is extremely popular with mobile operators in various countries around the globe. The company has already received pre-orders for more than 1 million devices or twice the pre-order sales of well-known Chocolate that eventually sold 20 million units. Taking into account the market reaction, LG expects the phone sales to catch up with Chocolate, Viewty, and Shine.   The GSMA reported that Mobile World Congress was attended by more than 47,000 visitors from 189 countries with executives from the largest mobile operators, software companies and equipment providers as well as government delegations. Attendees holding C-level positions constituted 50% of visitors and there were more than 2,800 CEOs at the conference. Leaders from companies including AT&T, China Mobile, China Unicom, Ericsson, Microsoft Corp., MySpace, Nokia, Telefonica, Telenor, Verizon Communications and Vodafone gathered to outline the plan to cope with the global economic slowdown and lessen its impact on mobile industry. The Congress featured 1,300 exhibiting companies on more than 57,000 square metres of space, 11% larger than in the previous year. Announcements made at Mobile World Congress were reported by nearly 2,400 international, Web, and broadcast media. Prospects and strategic issues facing the mobile industry will be explored at the Mobile Asia Congress that will be held in Hong Kong in autumn 2009.  

  Seventeen top mobile operators and manufacturers announced that they have decided to team up and create a universal charger for new mobile phones. The project is initiated by the GSMA. The universal charger compatible with all mobile phones will eliminate the manufacturers of making duplicate chargers (all of them have 51,000 tonnes in weight) that can be purchased separately in case the original charger is broken. Environment will only benefit by the reduced production of chargers. Moreover, mobile phone users will find the universal charger very convenient – they won’t have to spend a lot of time looking for a charger compatible with their mobile phones. The universal charging solution (UCS) is scheduled to be included in the package of most mobile phones by the 1st January 2012. A universal charger will be based on the Micro-USB interface.   Skype launches a lite version of Skype™ client that can be downloaded to Android-powered and Java-enabled cell phones. The lite version of Skype is now available for the T-Mobile G1™ and is expected to work on other future Android-powered devices. The ‘thin’ client also works on more than 100 Java-enabled phones from Nokia, LG, Samsung, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson.  

  LG KS660 seems to hit the market of China, Korea, Russia and its several satellites. As for the US market, the manufacturer is not thinking about it yet. Americans are upset about it, and hope that LG will change their decision and release the phone to the international market. The fact that KS660 is given so much attention can be explained not only by dual SIM support, but also by a 5 MP camera with autofocus and flash, 3” WQVGA display, and a stylus.  

  LG announces LG-GD910, the first 3G HSDPA wrist phone ever. The phone features a 1.43” touchscreen LCD, Bluetooth, Text To Speech (TTS) capabilities for easier reading of text messages, MP3 playback, video call option, and voice dialing with speech recognition. Speaking about HSDPA, LG company claims download speed of up to 7.2 Mbps. The new device, which is made both for Korean and European markets, is scheduled for an official debut at the 2009 CES in January. The retail price of the LG-GD910 has not been announced yet.    

  LG Electronics reports that during the first five weeks 150 thousand KP500 phones were sold. According to the latest data, 6-7 thousand phones are sold daily and their number is expected to increase.
