Sony Ericsson possesses one of the most complex collections of mobile phones and one of the most flexible ideas towards the product design. The manufacturer has a particular attitude in the sector of mid-range handsets by using at its best design tricks and the most valuable functions: music and camera. Sony Ericsson K660i is a nice candy-bar that shares this class. The device is available in two captivating colors that are more youth-oriented: Lime on White and Wine on Black. The handset is a quadband mobile phone (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) that besides internet connection via GPRS, it also supports HSDPA networks, for really fast data transfers. At a weight of only 95 grams and measuring 104 x 47 x 15 mm you can certainly find carry it effortlessly. The distinctive characteristic for this model is its shining front cover, and the silver lines that are all around the body. This helps it to attract not only attention but fingertips too.
Design
The front is as usually divided between two main areas: the display and the keyboard. We’ll start with the first one and mention the average or for someone - small size of 2”, but a quality picture thanks to the 240x320 pixels resolution and the 262K colors. Above the QVGA screen the ear speaker is located. Near it we recognize another pleasurable feature: the video calling camera. We had already said this before but it’s too obvious to let this pass by. And this something is the ability the designers at Sony Ericsson are managing the keyboard section. They will always find a way to make it different. Although this technique was largely implemented on other models like T650i and K810i, it looks totally different with K660i, as it combines with a couple of two warm colors and builds together a classy look. The keypad backlight is white, which is also in the same style: simple and groovy. The navigation console is marked up by the reference color (red or green). This portion includes the answering keys, two selection keys, a handy D-pad, and a pair of specific buttons: the Clear key and the Activity menu shortcut, which lists the running applications, and makes it faster to navigate to such functions as Bluetooth or Calculator. The content of this list can be customized for your comfort. Along with the keypad we’ve noticed a vertical alignment of icons. Those graphic images represent the function that each correlated alphanumeric key gets when the web browser is running. These shortcuts are designed to be especially convenient when surfing the internet in the landscape mode. But we still didn’t get it why the zoom controller (or the volume rocker) is placed on the right border, as it is more comfortable to use it with your thumb. The camera button is a little bit lower. On the opposite side there is only the microSD slot protected with a plastic cover. The USB, charger and headset slot is at the bottom. The on/off button is on the top.
Entertaiment
Making and receiving calls with Sony Ericsson k660i is easy done. The contact section is large enough to fill in more than the standard information by entering office or home details and other notes that seem to be important. The phone can also remind your friend’s birthday on a pre-specified day or time. The entertainment department covers the traditional DJ applications. The PhotoDJ will constantly add fun to your photos. Others are there only to check your creativity: The VideoDJ helps to mix the video clips and come out with beautiful and memorable moments, while the MusicDJ offers you the chance to compose your own ringtone or tune. Other types of file formats are handled by the more powerful version of the Walkman application with the 3rd edition. The FM radio is also an option. The 2MP camera is placed on the back panel and is suited in a silver circle, which imitates the metallic frame around the digital camera lens. The camera menu is checking your imagination again. The options vary from choosing the quality and resolution of the photo to the effects that can be applied instantly. Following on the connectivity options available and named before, we must add the Bluetooth here, and the important role that the 3G has, as it helps to add more other features like video-blogging , instant RSS delivery and TrackID that can identify a tune recorded by you in the street. Sony Ericsson does not include any GPS services but it comes preinstalled with a special application that can give you the necessary directions as long as you enter your current location, an option that could turn to be useless if you have no idea where are you. After all, the phone is equipped on a pretty good level and has an complementary price/performance ratio.
