This model is the reincarnation of the traditional trend which Nokia must be proud of. The collection of bar phones has a new distinctive member in the person of Nokia 6500 Classic. This handset is a great combination of the slim definition and top technology.. While holding the phone in your hand, you realize its main feature – the thin body (9.5 mm) – is a result of an engineering compromise, as the other two parameters of its size (109.8 x 45 mm) compensated the lack of space for the numerous technical resources hidden inside. The second notable physical aspect are the materials used with it and which makes the phone feel a little heavy, although it is not at only 94g.
Design
Compact and stylish – the phone has its body made mostly of metal, with a finish which is individually and separately applied to each model, fact that makes every piece unique. Except metal the lower part is made of solid and thick plastic in order for the antenna, which is incorporated here, to have a better signal. The key pad is large and provides a good feedback. SMS texting with it should be a pleasure to experience except for the hardly to identify separation between the alphanumerical keys – every time the eyes are going to search for the confirmation that the key which you hold your finger on is the right one. However the navigation process, apart from the menu, is on the top. You only have a smooth d-pad and two soft keys at your disposal, all of them doing a great and easy job for the owner. The ease of use concept is promoted with the 2” display which is above the average. The picture quality is guaranteed at a resolution of 240x320 pixels and the capacity to visualize up to 16 million colors. The classic aspect is a constant factor and the manufacturer chose to offer only two color schemes – black and bronze. Examining the border sides we found nothing but clear, elegant lines. The only slot is based on the bottom side and it holds the USB connectivity function.
Menu Navigation
The user interface is based on the 5th edition of Symbian 40. This means that the new owner of the handset won’t find any difficulties in adapting to it as the menu structure and idea are the same. The menu can be displayed, for the comfort of the user, in several modes: the traditional and very handy – grid mode, list mode and a tab-based. The look of the menu can be refreshed with specially designed themes that are oriented to combine with the outside color of the body. There is a good collection on-board, so everybody should be able to find something that feels it’s his own way. The home screen which is displayed during the stand by period can be set in two different modes. Therefore the manufacturer included the stand-by menu, which is a special configuration of useful and frequently used items. By choosing this mode, the phone will also display the list of tasks assigned for the current day in the calendar.
Camera and Media
The rear part is holding the camera and houses the battery compartment. Due to the smooth surface, fingers are constantly slipping and to open the plastic cover and to insert the SIM card or to replace the battery is a hard task. The camera sums 2MP and delivers good quality in almost any conditions. The difference that is delivered with the bi-xenon Flash LED will be especially noted when using the camera in the dark or in places with low ambient light. The maximum resolution for photos is 1600x1200 pixels and for video clips - 176x144 pixels. The camera menu is easy to handle and offers some effects to be applied for both types of media files. Nokia 6500 Classic is equipped with Xpress Music Player, which supports music and video playback. The last one can be performed in the landscape mode. What anybody should be pleased with is the large storage on-board this mobile-phone. Its 1GB of internal memory will make you forget that the handset is not equipped with a slot for memory cards. The connectivity options which are available include the Bluetooth, 3G technology and the USB transfer of data. Although it has a pretty lasting battery life in standby, the manufacturer should’ve been considering the fact to improve this situation as the 3G services are in a great demand for it.
