The 3G bar smartphone features Symbian 9.3 operating system with S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 user interface, a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with xenon flash, Carl Zeiss lens and active lens cover, FM radio with RDS, HSDPA, A2DP, 2.5 mm AV jack, A-GPS, a powerful speaker, 2.2-inch QVGA crisp and clear display, 120 MB of onboard memory, and support for microSD memory cards up to 8 GB. However, we were disappointed not find Wi-Fi and accelerometer. We think that it is the omission of these two features that makes the Nokia 6220 classic mobile phone a mid-range handset.
As you can see, the mobile device meets the requirements of a large category of mobile users who do like use their phones to the max but avoid spending big money on them. Nokia 6220 classic is even too functional for a mid-range mobile device.
CPU, Memory and Connectivity
The CPU @ 369 MHz and 128 MB of RAM ensure a very nice performance of the Symbian operating system and the hardware is enough to quickly respond to user commands and navigate the menu without any lags. The support for microSD cards up to 8 GB provides extra storage for videos and pictures that always tend to take all free space in a short time. There’s a 1 GB memory card in the sales package as Nokia 6220 classic handles it almost in the same way as an 8 GB one not slowing down the phone.
The HSDPA, HSCSD and EDGE technologies enable the user to take the most from high speed data transfer rates, multitasking and connectivity. The Nokia 6220 classic smartphone can communicate with other compatible devices via a Bluetooth or USB connection.
Design Features
The top of the frontside has a video call camera, the ambient light sensor and earpiece. The power key and loudspeaker are placed on the top of the mobile device.
The volume rocker and the camera shutter key are situated on the right side of the Nokia 6220 classic mobile phone.
The left side hosts the following elements: the GPS indicator, a customizable navigation shortcut key, and a microSD memory card slot with a protective door.
The bottom of the device is the richest in apertures. From left to right it hosts a strap eyelet, mini-USB slot, charging socket in the middle, and a 2.5 mm jack.

Display and Speaker
Display is relatively large and boasts great readability in the sunlight and exceptional picture quality. The ambient light sensor does its work perfectly as the brightness and colours are always gratifying to the eye.
The loudspeaker amazed us with its power, nice performance at all volume levels, and remarkably clear sound, more than enough to listen to music without the headset.
Keypad
Large keys are pressed with a click sound. You should apply quite a force to press them and we think that heavy texting is a weak point of the mobile phone. The backlighting is weaker closer to the edges, though we don’t consider it a complete failure because the keys a labeled in a very good way.
However, it not possible to start using the keypad without making mistakes because the clear key and the S60 menu one are tiny and can be accidentally pressed. It took us a while to get accustomed to the keypad to work with it smoothly.
Camera
The Nokia 6220 classic mobile phone has a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with xenon flash and Carl Zeiss lens. As for performance, we can mention precise colour reproduction, good sharpness, and the absence of distortion on the photos. The smallest photo size we’ve got is 386 KB, the largest – 1.15 MB. The maximum picture resolution is 2592x1944 pixels with 300 dots per inch.
The camera can also shoot video in 640x480 px resolution at 30 fps in MPEG-4 format.
