Ukrainian mobile operator is considering switching to online format 4G (fourth generation), bypassing the network 3G (third generation).
Association Wireless Ukraine has received instructions from the State Administration context, to explore the possibility of introducing a new standard and to determine the level of preparedness of mobile networks in Ukraine to move to 4G.
The term is commonly understood as a series of 3G mobile communication technologies (GSM EDGE, UMTS, CDMA2000, DECT and WiMAX). This higher data rate (3.6 megabits per second against 180 kilobits per second at the networks 2,5 G. A fourth-generation networks offer speeds up to 326.4 megabits per second on the incoming channel and up to 172.8 Mbit outgoing.
Introduction of 4G technology is currently blocked by the military, which owns the right to use suitable for 3G frequencies. As compensation, they require about 2.5 billion hryvnia (but cellular operators are willing to pay about 600 million hryvnia) to upgrade equipment, which will allow them to use to narrow the range of radio waves and, therefore, make room for 3G.
Experts say that Ukrainian mobile operators are not yet ready to adopt new technology. And for many frequencies, intended for 4G, are reserved for other projects (eg, digital television). Currently, this range of work by Ukrainian companies "MMDS-Ukraine" and "Cable TV Finance. 4G-new format has not yet been established and its implementation in the world to engage only in 2009.
