As the vice-president of Nokia, Kai Oistamo has declared at press conference in London, mobile phones based on a uniform Symbian mobile platform with a standardized interface will released, aproximately, in 2010. We shall remind, that the companies Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and NTT DOCOMO on the 10th anniversary day of Symbian have declared the creation of a noncommercial organization Symbian Foundation. The participants have planned to create a common platform with an uniform user interface based on S60, UIQ and MOAP.
Kai Oistamo has informed that within two years the new Symbian-platform will be accessible under the open-source license. Also, as he said, the first S60-elements for the unified operational system will be ready in the beginning of 2009. The S60 3rd edition Platform and the Symbian Foundation releases will be reciprocaly compatible.
