Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo demonstrated at CEATEC 2009 exhibition its new development, which allows to control mobile phone using eye movements.
The principle of operation of such a device is as follows: headphones are equipped with speakers positioned around the electrodes that respond to electrical impulses arising from the movement of the eyes. Signal to noise ratio at these electrodes is 95% lower compared with the electrodes were placed directly around the eyes. However, the company managed to improve the signal processing to such an extent that even such weak pulses in the movement of the eyes to register headphones.
In order to start playing songs, for example, is enough to look to the left. The same movement will stop playing music if the track is played. If the user has to rewind the track, you need to look twice to the right. And when the eye rotates clockwise increases the volume
When the first commercial samples, operator NTT DoCoMo is not reported.
