Motorola announced that it would deploy Motorola Mobile Advanced Location System (MALS) for the largest Japanese NTT DOCOMO mobile network operator to power its location based services (LBS).
Motorola’s system will give NTT DOCOMO the opportunity to become more competitive in the worldwide roaming market and enhance media mobility experience because MALS innovative end-to-end location based solution complies with all standards and meets the requirements of the next generation of LBS. For instance, DOCOMO’s users with mobile phones supporting SUPL can use such services as store locations and digital maps while traveling abroad.
Mobile Advances Location System detects the user’s location on the basis of reference positions obtained from GPS satellites and mobile networks. MALS is supported by GMLC (the Gateway Mobile Location Center), which improves accuracy of A-GPS compared to the conventional standalone GPS. MALS has been successfully tested and proven to deliver excellent performance.
